UMass Medical School

The UMass Medicine in Motion chapter partners with existing campus groups to provide fun opportunities for members of the UMass community to engage in physical activity. These events will bring together students, physicians, and other healthcare workers for stress-relieving, community-building, wellness-strengthening experiences. Examples of our activities include partnering with doctors from our Peds division to promote a UMass team for a 5k in Worcester and working with educational leaders to pair physical activity with in-class learning.

CHapter leadership

Emily Vicks
Emily is a second-year medical student originally from Clinton, New York. She is a certified spin and yoga instructor and actively teaches for MIM (and friends and family in quarantine). She went to college in Middlebury, Vermont, where she spent most of her time hiking, ski patrolling, and teaching spin. She continues to ski, hike, and move her way through medical school, and she loves being a part of MIM because she can connect with people that share this same passion for mindful movement and cultivating self-love and appreciation for what our bodies do for us each and every day.

Marianna Paradise
Marianna Paradise is a second-year medical student at UMass Medical School. She attended University of Maryland, College Park for her undergrad education (go Terps!) and was a member of the club rowing team. When she’s not studying, she is busy baking or running (slowly). Mari is excited to share her passion for fitness with her community and is a proponent of leading a well-balanced life in order to prevent burnout.

Jennifer Sullivan
Jenny is a second-year medical student at UMass Medical School. She received her undergraduate degree in Global Health at Georgetown University in 2018, where she was also a diver on the Swim and Dive team for four years. Jenny is excited to find the same sense of community, support, and passion for fitness that she had during college athletics as a member of Medicine in Motion. In addition to her role as a chapter lead at UMass, she is also the VP of Sponsorship at MiM.

Vanya Zvonar
Vanya is a second-year medical student at UMass Medical School. She is originally from the South End of Boston, and went to Harvard for undergrad. She has always loved dancing, and has been a part of many dance teams, as well as teaching Zumba during undergrad. In Worcester, she spends many mornings running (hills are the best!) and trying to find her inner peace doing hot yoga. She also loves escaping to Vermont to hike and ski with her family and her crazy puppy Koko. Being a part of MiM and meeting others passionate about fitness and wellness has been a wonderful opportunity, and she looks forward to doing more workouts with all of you!
