Jared Badger

Jared is a first-year medical student at Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine. He
graduated in 2022 from Southern Utah University, where he fell in love with the
outdoors. He worked in EMS for an ambulance service and on ski patrol for several years, combining his passions of medicine and outdoor recreation. Getting outside and being active are huge parts of his life, and his favorite activities are skiing, rock climbing, and running. Jared is excited to help build this chapter in Utah and combat burnout through health and fitness outside!

Justin Lyon

Justin is a first-year medical student at the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine in Salt Lake City, UT. He graduated from the University of Idaho in 2021 with High Honors in Medical Sciences and over four years of research experience in neuromuscular biomechanics working under Dr. Craig McGowan and Dr. Joshua Bailey. After graduating, he spent two years in rural
North Idaho, serving various roles in both specialty and primary care fields. Justin’s background in athletics has had a significant impact on both his mental and physical health, leading him to
be an avid cyclist, runner, and weightlifter. During his time at the U, he hopes to advance his skills in medical leadership and education while promoting the numerous benefits that can be found when prioritizing one’s overall health.

Monica Leilani Owens

Monica is a first-year MD student at the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine at the University of Utah. She grew up in Hawaii where she discovered her love for hiking, running, and yoga. She was a competitive cheerleader her entire life and later received a cheerleading scholarship to UNLV, where she attended undergrad before transferring to the University of Utah. In 2020, she began running more as a means to help maintain her mental health through the COVID-19 pandemic. She is currently training for her first marathon and continues to utilize running as an outlet for stress throughout medical school. She believes the benefits of exercise extend far beyond physical health and hopes to empower her classmates to use physical activity to combat burnout.

Nathan Sherbotie

Nathan is a second year, non-traditional medical student. He returned to school in
hopes of providing empathetic, patient-focused care to thoughtfully improve the lives of others. Physical activity and outdoor experiences are an important part of Nathan’s well being and sense of personal development. In an effort to improve culture and wellness of others in his community, Nathan was excited to join the medicine in motion chapter and help promote this attitude in others. He hopes to inspire classmates and patients to prioritize wellness and achieve personal happiness.
